Chronic pain. It hurts and it sucks. What if there were a way to get rid of it, or at least make it a heck of a lot more tolerable? Stanford’s recent study shows us how.
Though it is small pilot study, I like it because I like studies done by people without financial ties to the outcome of a study. In general, I also like studies funded by the NIH because, again, there tends to be less bias (though not always). Read the study here.
What does this translate to? The nitty-gritty is this:
Anger makes chronic pain more likely to occur and makes the severity of pain worse. Compassion meditation may be a useful treatment for significantly reducing both anger and pain.
How cool is that?!? “Very” is the answer. Refer back to my prior post about the Harvard study showing how meditation actually changes the brain on imaging scans.
