Do you suffer from chronic indigestion, abdominal
bloating, colitis, frequent stools or constipation, fatigue, repeated colds and
flu, anxiety or depression? Do you know
or have a child with any of these symptoms?
If the answer is YES, then you’ve probably been treated with antibiotics
and antibiotic syndrome is partially to blame.
Antibiotic syndrome exists due to antibiotics severely damaging your gut
flora.
‘Gut flora’ is the bacteria
living in the entire GI tract but especially in the small and large
intestines. Everyone has a different
mixture of various types of gut flora.
No one on earth has the same gut flora.
It’s like a fingerprint. We are
all unique. And, the average adult has
3-5 pounds of gut flora (bacteria) in our intestines at all times. Now that’s a crap load of bacteria in us! The flora in our gut has many functions
including helping us to digest our food properly, improving our immunity protecting
us from bad organisms, regulating our stooling patterns, helping to form and
balance our neurotransmitters, and helping to regulate hormones. Taking antibiotics changes this gut flora by
killing much of it off and thereby altering our digestion, neurotransmitters
and hormones. So taking antibiotics
gives us abnormal gut flora which is
dysbiosis which is antibiotic syndrome.
Let me make it clear that antibiotics can be very useful and
even life-saving when given for the right situation. The problem is that doctors hand antibiotics prescriptions out like it is candy at
Halloween. Around 7-10 times more often
than they should for coughs and sore throats.
How many times have you been prescribed an antibiotic for a cough or
sore throat?
Antibiotic syndrome is more alive than ever today. 30-50% of the U.S. population suffers from
it. This means that chances are pretty
good that you do too! To make matters
worse, the litany of antibiotic syndrome symptoms are examined, tested and
treated as completely different diagnoses with more antibiotics and other
powerful drugs month after month and year after year often snowballing the
effects. Imagine, being prescribed an
antidepressant all because of an unnecessary antibiotic to begin with.
30-50% of the population equates to millions of Americans
(and maybe you) walking around doubled over with abdominal pain, unable to eat
most foods, crippled with arthritis, agonizing over severe skin conditions,
worn out of energy, in a brain fog or emotionally disabled with depression or
paralyzed with anxiety… all due to antibiotic syndrome… caused by their
doctors. Please note that some of you
are guilty of visiting the doctor with a sore throat, cough or sinus infection
and demanding or even subtly threatening a malpractice lawsuit if they don’t
prescribe antibiotics. If you are that
person. Stop it! You’re not doing yourself any favors.
So, what can you do if you suffer from Antibiotic Syndrome or dysbiosis and have any of the above mentioned symptoms?
#1. Stop the downhill spiral of taking powerful,
destructive antibiotics that should be completely avoided except as a last
resort treatment or when truly needed.
#2. Rebuild your gut flora with a high
quality probiotics. ProSynbiotics 2
twice daily for 6 months to a year is a good idea.
#3. Heal the Lining of Your Intestines. GI Revive 2 twice daily for 6 months to a
year is beneficial.
#4. Improve your stomach acid. Most people have too little stomach acid
which makes it extra difficult to digest your food protein which then alters
your gut flora. If you have inadequate
stomach acid then Zypan 2 per meal will help.
If you have indigestion or heartburn that worsens from the Zypan, please
do not take it. The vast majority of
people find their indigestion improves with Zypan.
#5. Eat vegetables, protein from healthy
sources, and good fats. Avoid sugar
and processed foods.
#6. Use natural therapies to prevent and kill
illness like colds, flu, bronchitis, sinusitis and pneumonia. Natural therapies actually work in the 90% of
cases that antibiotics don’t too. Maybe these
‘natural therapy’ options will be my next blog post.
